Rainbow Trout Pasta
As supplements go, fish oil is very popular, with even our supermarkets selling them by the bucket. The problem with these cheaper brands is that the production and storage may have caused the fish oil to oxidise. Now, oxidized fish oil does more harm in your body than good, so always be sure that if you have to take fish oil (because of certain ailments) that you get a good brand. If you take fish oil to keep up with the Jones, well, why don’t you invest your money in a good quality fish 2-3 times a week?
As fatty fish goes, trout is a big favourite in our house. Growing up in the Netherlands, this cold water fish is more readily available, but I did find good quality here in Australia. Trout offers a large chunk of our daily required Vitamin B12 and is of course a good source of omega 3 fatty acids.
Our Saturday night dinner was an easy one, here is the recipe:
Rainbow Trout Pasta
1 rainbow trout
1 small head of broccoli
1 onion
1-2 tomatoes
whole meal pasta (for 3-4)
salt, pepper, garlic
1 cup of (vegetable) broth
Put the trout in the oven on a baking tray and put on low (to avoid drying out, we just want to heat it). Cook pasta.
In a frying pan, stir-fry an onion with salt and garlic. Add the chopped up tomatoes. Add the broccoli, which you cut in small florets, and stir a bit more. Add the broth, put a lid on top and let simmer. When the pasta is done, add to the vegetable mixture. Take the trout from the oven and pull carefully apart to avoid bones ending up in your dinner! Mix all together and serve!
